Motorcyclist Charged With Drunken Driving In Manchester Crash

The motorcyclist, a Lacey Township resident, lost control after the bike touched the pavement, police said.

MANCHESTER, NJ — A Lacey Township man was injured early Thursday in a motorcycle crash in Whiting, and police say he was charged with driving while intoxicated.

Charles Hicks, 54, was injured in the crash on Wranglebrook Road at Canton Drive that was reported at 3:24 a.m., Capt. Albert Vega said.

Hicks was riding a Harley-Davidson east on Wranglebrook Road when his motorcycle made contact with the pavement as he was negotiating a turn, causing him to lose control. Hicks and his motorcycle slid about 8 feet before coming to a rest in the road, Vega said.

Hicks was not wearing a DOT-approved helmet at the time of the crash, Vega said. He was taken to Community Medical Center in Toms River for treatment of injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening, Vega said. e

The investigation led to Hicks being charged with suspicion of driving while intoxicated, Vega said.

Assisting at the scene were EMTs with the Manchester Township Division of Emergency Services and Priced Rite Towing.

Patrolman Brendan Brush of the department’s Traffic Safety Unit is investigating.

"With the warm weather and increased traffic, the Manchester Township Police Department would like to remind all motorists to watch out for motorcycles and for all motorcyclists to always wear DOT approved helmets and equipment when riding," Vega said.
