MANCHESTER, NJ — A vehicle stolen from the parking lot of shop while its owner was inside was quickly recovered, Manchester police said in a news release.

The vehicle was reported stolen at about 3 p.m. on March 21, Capt. Albert Vega said. Its owner had briefly entered the Corner Store at 2001 Ridgeway Road and during that time, the vehicle was stolen, Vega said.

Fortunately, the vehicle was equipped with OnStar technology, so officers were able to quickly track down its location, Vega said. It led them to Pine Street, where they found the vehicle parked, Vega said.

Denise Dowling, 58, of Manchester, was charged with theft of a stolen vehicle. She was issued a summons and released pending a future court date, Vega said. The vehicle was also returned to its rightful owner, he said.

"We would also like to take this opportunity to remind our residents to always lock and secure their vehicles, whether at home or when making a quick stop at a store," Vega said. "Taking this simple precaution can significantly reduce the risk of vehicle theft and help keep our community safe."
