2 Assaults, Robbery On Halloween In Maplewood: Police

MPD: Two teens got in a fistfight. A woman was pepper-sprayed. An argument turned ugly on Valley Street.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Two assaults and a robbery took place in Maplewood on Halloween, police said.

The Maplewood Police Department released details about the following incidents, which took place on Oct. 31:

Assault – “Maplewood police officers responded to a residence on Courter Avenue on a report of an assault. After an on-scene investigation, it was determined that unknown suspect(s) struck the 17-year-old juvenile male and 18-year-old male with their fists. The two males were transported to area hospital for their injuries. The Maplewood Police Detective Bureau is still actively investigating the incident. Anyone having information or video of the incident is asked to contact the Maplewood Police Department 973-762-3400.”

Aggravated Assault – “Maplewood police officers responded to a residence on Springfield Avenue on a report of an assault. After an on-scene investigation, it was determined that unknown suspect(s) pepper sprayed a 26-year-old female in the face. The female refused medical attention. The Maplewood Police Detective Bureau is still actively investigating the incident. Anyone having information or video of the incident is asked to contact the Maplewood Police Department 973-762-3400.”

Robbery – “Maplewood police officers responded to Valley Street on a report of a robbery. After an on-scene investigation, it was determined that an 18-year-old male and 17-year-old female were walking along Valley Street when they were approached by a group of males and an argument was initiated. The altercation became physical and personal items of the couple were taken from them. South Essex Fire Department responded for non-life-threatening injuries; however medical care was refused. The Maplewood Youth Aid Bureau is still actively investigating the incident. Anyone having information or video of the incident is asked to contact the Maplewood Police Department 973-762-3400.”
