Car Hits Juvenile Near High School In Maplewood-South Orange: Police

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — A driver recently hit a juvenile pedestrian near Columbia High School in Maplewood, authorities say.

According to the Maplewood Police Department, an officer responded to the high school on Dec. 16 after getting a report about a car-pedestrian strike. The school serves students from Maplewood and South Orange.

The juvenile said a van hit them as they were crossing at the intersection of Parker Avenue and Academy Street. The vehicle was making a left onto Academy Street at the time, police said.

Maplewood police investigated the incident, later charging a 30-year-old resident of Dingmans Ferry, Pennsylvania with Leaving the Scene of an Accident, Failure to Report an Accident, Careless Driving, and Failure to Yield to Pedestrian.
