Maplewood police apprehended and charged a suspect in connection with a burglary and two attempted burglaries in the township.
MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Maplewood police recently apprehended and charged a suspect in connection with a burglary and two attempted burglaries in the township, authorities say.
The Maplewood Police Department released the following details about three recent home intrusions, reporting that a suspect – Hakim White of Newark – has been charged in connection with each incident.

Dec. 20 – At 5:42 a.m., police officers responded to a Courter Avenue residence after getting a report about a burglary. The resident told police that three unknown men wearing dark clothing and masks entered the home through an unsecured first-floor window during the overnight hours. Nothing was missing, but the men may have been targeting his two motor vehicles. A Ring video camera shows the men leaving the residence and walking towards Norfolk Avenue.
Dec. 22 – At 2:40 a.m., police officers responded to a home on Collinwood Road after getting a report about an attempted home burglary. The resident said she had heard a noise coming from the downstairs window and immediately called the police. Officers searched the property, finding a first-floor window screen popped out and the window partially open. Police confirmed that the window was secured by the homeowner and that the lock had been broken off. No items were reported missing.

Dec. 22 – At 6:28 a.m., police officers responded to a home on New England Road after getting a report about a home burglary. The resident said he discovered a damaged window leading from the patio during the early morning hours. A window screen was found removed. Nothing was reported missing, but the resident said that someone rummaged through his unsecured vehicle.
After conducting an investigation, police identified White as a suspect in each incident. He was charged and transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility, authorities said.
