Man Assaulted With Baseball Bat At Maplewood Business, Police Say

The victim was seriously injured in the attack, police said.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — A man was hospitalized after another man assaulted him with a baseball bat at a business in Maplewood last week, authorities say.

According to the Maplewood Police Department, officers responded to a business on Springfield Avenue on May 12 after getting a report about an assault.

“After an on-scene investigation, it was determined that a 29-year-old male was assaulted by another male with a baseball bat. The injured male fled away from the actor and the scene into Irvington, ultimately to be transported to an area hospital for his serious injuries.”

Maplewood detectives responded to the scene and conducted an investigation, eventually identifying the suspected assailant as Ellis Earle, 46, of Union.

Earle was apprehended and charged with second-degree aggravated assault. He was transported to the Essex County Correctional Facility in Newark, police said.
