Maplewood Shooting Suspect Charged With Assault: Police

Maplewood police announced charges in connection with a shooting that took place in the township last year.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Maplewood police charged a man with aggravated assault in connection with a shooting that took place in the township last year, authorities announced this week.

The Maplewood Police Department previously reported that a 24-year-old male from Irvington was found with multiple gunshot wounds near Jacoby and Brown streets at 11:30 p.m. on May 31, 2024. The victim was transported to the hospital for treatment and was listed in stable condition, authorities said.

Earlier this week, police issued an update about the shooting. Authorities said Jerry Menard, 25, of Irvington, was charged with two counts of aggravated assault with a firearm, criminal mischief and multiple weapons offenses.

Menard is currently incarcerated in state prison on other unrelated charges, Maplewood police said.
