Popular Italian Restaurant In Maplewood To Move, Merge With Bakery
An Italian restaurant in Maplewood is merging with a bakery and moving to bigger digs.
MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Arturo's Restaurant in Maplewood, which features gourmet wood-fired pizzas, is merging with a bakery called The Bread Stand, moving to larger digs, and changing its name.
Now you'll be able to get warm bread, and wood fired pizzas, at "Artie's," the restaurant said in a social media post last week.
Just a week earlier, they showed off their "asparagus, spring onions, leeks and whipped burrata" pizza.

Then, on Wednesday, they wrote, "Happy to finally share some updates that we’ve been excited about. In the next month or so we’ll be moving into a new space in town. It’s a slightly bigger, interesting old body shop with lots of character. We’ll have a small and simple bar program that will grow at a pace that we’re able to manage. There’s more — the restaurant and @thebreadstand will become one, under one roof."
They explained, "We’ll be a mostly all day place with bakery things in the morning, full lunch service in the afternoon, a little break and then dinner, with takeout throughout (at least that’s what we think will happen). Our menus will be similar and gradually expand.

As for the name change, "We’re going to be “Artie’s” (you can always call us whatever you prefer). This was a fun opportunity for us to lighten it up a bit. Leaving downtown is bittersweet. It’s a uniquely special place..."
Fans gave positive responses. "We will miss you so, but hope to be first in line when you reopen (or as near as we can get)," wrote one commenter.
They're at 180 Maplewood Avenue and will move to 13 Newark Way.
