Robbery At Maplewood Gas Station On Easter, Suspect Flees: Police

A man entered the store and took money from the register. When a worker tried to intervene, they got a punch in the chest, police said.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — A “strong-arm robbery” took place at a gas station in Maplewood on Easter Sunday, authorities said.

According to the Maplewood Police Department, the robbery happened Sunday at the Phillips 66 gas station on the 2,000-block of Springfield Avenue.

Police said the incident unfolded when a man dressed in all black entered the store at 7:08 a.m. and removed between $300 and $400 from the cash register. When a store employee tried to intervene, the man punched the worker in the chest.

The employee wasn’t injured and declined medical attention at the scene, police said.

The suspect – who is believed to be in his 30s – fled the area on foot towards Union on Laurel Avenue, authorities said.
