Maplewood police have arrested a suspect in a robbery that took place on Easter Sunday in the township, authorities say.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — Maplewood police have arrested a suspect in connection with a robbery that took place on Easter Sunday in the township, authorities say.
According to the Maplewood Police Department, a “strong-arm robbery” happened on April 20 at the Phillips 66 gas station on Springfield Avenue.
Police said the incident unfolded when a man dressed in all black entered the store at 7:08 a.m. and removed between $300 and $400 from the cash register. When a store employee tried to intervene, the man punched the worker in the chest.

The employee wasn’t injured and declined medical attention at the scene, police said.
The suspect – who is believed to be in his 30s – fled the area on foot towards Union on Laurel Avenue, authorities said.

Maplewood police detectives arrested Joseph Foster, 36, of Vauxhall, in connection with the incident on May 1. He was charged with robbery, authorities said.
