Stranger Enters Maplewood Home, Steals Car Keys, Takes BMW: Police

A car was stolen overnight in Maplewood last week, and 3 cars were burglarized in a 3-day period, police said.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — A car was stolen and three cars were burglarized in a three-day period in Maplewood last week, police said.

On Monday, May 22, Maplewood officers responded to a residence on Parker Avenue on a report of a burglary. The homeowner said he parked his 2022 BMW X5 in his driveway the day before at approximately 10 p.m. Around 10:51 a.m. the next morning, he saw that the car was missing from the driveway. Police determined that someone got into the home from an "unsecure" rear door, took the keys, then took the car. A string of similar thefts and attempts were reported in Livingston last week as well.

Also, on May 21 of last week, someone said that a GMC Terrain was rummaged through on Franklin Avenue overnight. More than $2,000 in photography equipment was taken, the owner said.

And also that day, an Indiana Street resident said someone rummaged through the Kia overnight. Nothing valuable was taken, police said.

And a Richmond Avenue resident said $20 cash was taken from the center console of their unlocked 2019 Range Rover. It appeared that someone rummaged through it overnight, police said.
