Vehicle Hits Pedestrian In Maplewood While Making Left Turn, Police Say

The pedestrian was attempting to cross the road at the time, Maplewood police said.

MAPLEWOOD, NJ — A vehicle hit a pedestrian at the intersection of Oakland Road and Prospect Street in Maplewood last week, police say.

According to the Maplewood Police Department, the collision took place on Thursday.

“A witness on scene confirmed that the vehicle in question was traveling northbound on Prospect Street. While attempting to make a left turn onto Oakland Road the vehicle struck the victim, who was attempting to cross Oakland Road southbound and in the crosswalk.”

The victim – an Irvington resident – was transported to University Hospital with a possible broken leg, police said.

The driver was issued a citation for 39:4- 36(A)(1), authorities said.
