Through this monthly event, police can learn more about the issues that matter most to senior residents, officials said. See details:

MARLBORO, NJ — Local senior residents and police are teaming up at Senior Living Residences Marlboro (SLR Marlboro) for the assisted living community’s “Coffee With A Cop” program.
This program, which takes place on a monthly basis, involves an officer from the Marlboro Township Police Department visiting the community for informal conversation about the issues that matter most to residents.
The program stemmed from the first “Coffee With A Cop” program that launched in Hawthorne, CA, in 2011. Since that time, communities across the U.S. have adopted the initiative as a form of community policing.

At SLR Marlboro, residents enjoy coffee with Officer Kelly Drum on a monthly basis for relaxed conversation and relationship-building to better solve issues that arise in town.
Through “Coffee With A Cop,” officers can learn more about the needs and experiences of the senior population, and have the opportunity to interact with residents in SLR’s Compass Memory Support Neighborhood to better understand Alzheimer’s disease and related dementia.

In turn, during these casual gatherings over coffee and snacks, assisted living residents are able to learn more about what officers do on a daily basis.
“Without the barriers of police cars, sirens, cell phones and walkie-talkies, both police and residents alike can find common ground,” SLR Marlboro officials said.
