Burglar Enters Woman's Home In Union Beach; She Locked Herself In Bedroom

An intruder crawled into a home Friday morning in Union Beach, and the woman alone inside the home locked herself in her bedroom.

UNION BEACH, NJ — An intruder crawled into a home Friday morning in Union Beach, and the woman alone inside the home locked herself in her bedroom and called 911.

This was reported Friday by Union Beach Police on their Facebook page.

At 6:53 a.m. Friday, police responded to a 911 call made from the 800 block of Front Street, of a woman reporting a burglary in progress inside her home.

Police say Vincent Cummings, 43, of Forked River, broke into the home via the living room window. The homeowner quickly locked herself in her bedroom and called Union Beach Police. Police arrived on the scene within approximately two minutes.

Police say Cummings hid in the bathroom and barricaded himself inside; Detective James O’Toole was able to break down the bathroom door and with assistance from Patrolmen Matthew Olivo and Kevin Finucan, take Cummings into custody.

Cummings was found to be bleeding having smashed the living room window out, said police. He was treated by Keyport and Holmdel EMS for minor injuries, and was incarcerated at the Monmouth County jail.

He was charged with Burglary, Criminal Trespass, Criminal Mischief and Possession of CDS.
