Car Struck Route 35 Divider & Traffic Signal Pole Before Flipping, Aberdeen Police Say

The 17-year-old driver from Hazlet and two juvenile passengers reported no injuries after the accident Sunday.

A vehicle flipped over after the driver struck a concrete divider and traffic signal pole at the intersection of Route 35 and Cliffwood Avenue in Aberdeen on Sunday, according to Police Chief John Powers. 

Shortly before 5 p.m., a 17-year-old Hazlet resident lost control while driving a 2011 Nissan Maxima through the intersection. The driver was attempting to turn right onto Route 35 south from Cliffwood Avenue when the one-vehicle accident occurred, Powers said. The car came to rest on its roof.

The 17-year-old and two juvenile passengers did not report any injuries.

The driver was ticketed for careless driving and violation of passenger restrictions for a provisional driver's license, according to Powers.

P.O. Matthew McDow conducted the investigation. The New Jersey Department of Transportation and Jersey Central Power & Light responded to the scene.

Officers remained at the intersection for traffic control until about 7:30 p.m., Powers said.
