Matawan’s Rosemary Conte, veteran jazz singer and vocal coach and her singer/musician sons Steve and John Conte will head a lineup of popular Jersey Shore artists in The Concert for Tent City, Easter Sun., Apr. 8, 3-5 pm, outdoors in Town Square, Lakewood, NJ. (corner of 4th & Clifton Ave.) Music fans should bring lawn chairs.
Rosemary began production of this event after spending a day at the homeless encampment in the woods of Lakewood known as Tent City. There, people with no jobs and no place to live work together, living in tents---in community for their mutual survival. There are many hundreds of homeless people in Monmouth and Ocean Counties, and only a few emergency, temporary shelters where eligibility requirements are too stringent and impractical for the desperate to meet.
She says the purpose of the concert is to increase awareness of the problem of homelessness, to celebrate and advocate for Tent City, and to bring free, quality musical performances to everyone, including those who in this economy cannot afford to buy concert tickets and to frequent clubs and other venues. We need music. It’s lifts the spirit and feeds the soul.
