Facelift Approved for McDonald's of Aberdeen

The Zoning Board memorialized the resolution approving major changes to the McDonald's on Route 34 in Aberdeen.

The Aberdeen Township Zoning Board gave McDonald's a green light to revamp their Aberdeen location, according to a resolution adopted by the board on April 24.

The current structure features an old design for the popular fast-food chain, with a tan cement and stone facade and minimal signage. McDonald's new restaurant design has sleeker and more modern elements, such as a single golden arch versus the dual arches that form an "M".

Final site plan approval by the Zoning Board allows McDonald's Real Estate Company to demolish the existing building at 1108 Route 34 and construct a new one with a drive-thru facility that has two ordering points.

The project required several variances, including one allowing the drive-thru, one to reduce the amount of required landscape buffers along the street and the property line, one for three cross-access points where one one is allowed, one allowing maximum parking lot coverage to be greater than permitted and one removing the requirement to plant trees along the Route 34 frontage.

The Zoning Board also approved more freestanding and attached signs than permitted with fewer restrictions on size. The use of promotional banners and directional signage larger than normally will also permitted.
