Man Gets 15 Years For Gunpoint Robbery Of 2 Monmouth County Businesses
An Elizabeth man was sentenced Thursday to 15 years in prison for committing a series of three armed robberies, two in Monmouth County.

ABERDEEN, NJ — An Elizabeth man was sentenced Thursday to 15 years in prison for committing a series of three armed robberies, and one of them was a convenience store in Aberdeen, and another a Hazlet bank, both of which he robbed at gunpoint in 2021, said U.S. Attorney Alina Habba.
Dayshawn Brimfield previously pleaded guilty to one count of bank robbery, two counts of Hobbs Act robbery, one count of using and carrying a firearm during and in relation to a crime of violence, and one count of interstate transportation of a stolen motor vehicle.
On April 2, 2021, Brimfield robbed a bank in Hazlet. Brimfield entered the bank and handed a teller a note, which stated, among other things “This is a Robbery I have a Gun I will Kill Someone if you do not follow these instructions.”

Then on April 17 Brimfield stole a motor vehicle in Elizabeth, which he used as the getaway car in his later robberies. On April 20, Brimfield robbed an unnamed convenience store in Aberdeen. He showed a handgun to the cashier before taking money from the store’s register and fleeing.

Later that same day, he robbed another convenience store in South Plainfield, this time pointing the handgun at the cashier. Brimfield took the cashier’s wallet and cell phone before emptying the store’s registers and fleeing the scene.
Brimfield fled New Jersey in the stolen vehicle, but was ultimately apprehended by law enforcement in Lancaster County, Nebraska. Brimfield led officers on a brief, high-speed chase before crashing into a fence on the side of the highway.
In addition to the prison term, Judge Quraishi sentenced Brimfield to 5 years of supervised release and ordered restitution to the victims of Brimfield’s offenses.
