Matawan Medical Center Paints Borough Pink
Matawan Medical Center pinked-out their building and parking lot to bring awareness to breast cancer and prevention methods.
Pink, pink and more pink might seem like every little girl's dream, but it can be every woman's worst nightmare.
The joyous color has become representative of breast cancer awareness, research and patient support and about seven years ago, Meridian Health began painting towns pink to spread the word: Breast cancer is much less scary if found early.
Matawan Medical Center on Main Street joined in the pink-tivities this year to help encourage women with high risk factors and women over 49 to get regular screenings and mammograms, explained Dr. Dalia Hanna, one of several doctors at the practice.

They recently held a "Paint Matawan Pink" event in their parking lot, complete with informative pamphlets, trivia, classic cars and children's games. Of course, plenty of pink ribbons and signs decorated the outside of the doctor's office.
The center came under the Meridian Health umbrella about two years ago and has since been almost entirely remodeled, Hanna said. Although they do not perform mammograms there, they do screen patients for breast cancer, train women how to regularly check themselves and encourage at risk women and women over 49 to get mammograms.
