More Aberdeen, Matawan Power Outages Caused By Downed Wires: JCP&L

The outages were prompted by a series of unrelated events like downed wires, a spokesperson for JCP&L told Patch.

ABERDEEN, NJ - A series of power outages in Aberdeen and Matawan have prompted local officials to inquire directly with JCP&L.

Another power outage affected more homes in the same section of town Wednesday, Aberdeen officials said. Matawan Borough also reported an outage in its municipality.

“We have asked JCP&L as to what is the cause of the issues this week and we are still awaiting a response,” Aberdeen officials said in a Wednesday statement. “Township officials are in constant contact with not only JCP&L but also now our representatives at higher levels of government.”

As of 8:30 a.m. Thursday, there were no outages reported in Aberdeen or Matawan. Roughly 300 customers were without power in Middletown and 19 customers were without power in Red Bank.

JCP&L spokesperson Chris Hoenig told Patch the outages have been caused by a series of unrelated events, mostly downed wires.

"We understand how frustrating this week’s outages in Aberdeen and Matawan have been for customers," Hoenig said. "Our team is continuing to investigate this series of outages."
