Republican Incumbents Win in Matawan's Borough Council Race

Donna Gould and Linda Clifton win another term on the Borough Council

Incumbents in Matawan’s Borough Council race came away victorious in Tuesday’s election.

Incumbent Republicans Linda Clifton and Donna Gould defeated Democratic challengers Joe Altomonte and Bonnie Krause, according to unofficial results from Monmouth County's Office of the County Clerk.

Clifton and Gould received 29 and 28 percent of the vote, respectively, compared to 22 percent each for Altomonte and Krause, according to the county.

The lone available borough seat on the Matawan-Aberdeen Regional Board of Education went to Anissa Esposito, who ran unopposed. She won 96 percent of the vote—write in candidates took nearly 4 percent, according to the county.

Though vote tallies from all districts in Matawan were counted Tuesday night, results remain unofficial until mail-in and provisional ballots are counted.
