Strathmore Elementary Gets Snowed in to Benefit Hurricane Sandy Victims
The snow-themed charity event incorporated the whole family.
Pajama-clad students scurried through the cafeteria at Strathmore Elementary School on the night of Dec. 18, dropping off donations for victims of Hurricane Sandy.
Each grade was asked to bring a different donation, explained Principal Kelly Bera. Kindergartners donated children's socks or underwear, first graders donated school supplies and second graders donated toiletries.
After dropping off their donation, the students towed their families straight to their classrooms where they watched The Snowman, made a melted snowman craft and even had a snowman themed snack.

While the children enjoyed the afterhours activity with their families, the mounds of donations were sorted into backpacks donated by the Matawan Aberdeen Rotary Club for a local Girl Scout Troop to deliver to children in need.
"We thought it was important for the kids to see all of us working together tonight for our friends just down the street who were affected," Bera said during the event.
