Will Independence Day be Celebrated with a Bang in Matawan?
The borough council is expected to decide Tuesday night.

The skies in Matawan have been notably quiet on the Fourth of July for last three years, with the borough unable to afford a fireworks celebration.
Tonight, the Matawan Borough Council is expected to vote on a resolution "approving the discharge of fireworks in the Borough of Matawan in celebration of Independence Day," according to the agenda.
Last year, the borough attempted to plan fireworks for the Fourth of July but was unable to come up with the necessary funds. Matawan Recreation Director Deirdre Ring said at the time that the cost of a show can vary based on the length and amount of fireworks as well as the date of the show, but a safe estimate is between $8,000 and $10,000.
This story will be updated as soon as more information becomes available from the borough.
