2 Mendham Students Earn 2023 College-Sponsored Merit Scholarship

MENDHAM, NJ — Two Mendham students earned the prestigious college-sponsored merit scholarship from the National Merit Scholarship Competition for 2023.

The announcement was made recently by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).

Here are the names of the students:

Matthew P. Malloy

• Scholarship: National Merit Emory University Scholarship
• Probable Career Field: Chemistry
• School: Newark Academy

Jack Xu

• Scholarship: National Merit Emory University Scholarship
• Probable Career Field: Undecided
• School: West Morris Mendham High School

These scholarships will provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study.

Xu and Malloy are among more than 7,140 winners of National Merit Scholarships financed by U.S. colleges and universities, according to the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).

Officials of each sponsor college selected their scholarship winners from among the Finalists in the 2023 National Merit Scholarship Program who plan to attend their institution.

An additional group of Scholars will be announced in July.
