Chester, Mendham Police Departments Remind Residents To Lock Cars

Police cautioned residents to take keys or fobs and valuables with them, after a number of car theft attempts were made on Monday.

CHESTER, NJ — Both Chester and Mendham Police Departments had firm messages for residents about the importance of locking up their vehicles, following a series of car break-in attempts reported to Mendham Borough Police on Monday night.

“Please lock your cars and remove key fobs, regardless of time of day,” the Chester Police Department cautioned social media followers in a message on Tuesday night.

Chester Police say that Mendham Borough Police received several reports this past Monday night at about 7:30 p.m. of attempted car thefts, with two successfully taken from nearby Somerset County.

The Chester Police Department echoed Mendham Borough’s message from earlier Tuesday to “make it a routine to lock your cars.”

“Don’t be a victim,” Mendham Police wrote.

Chester Police instructed people who see suspicious-appearing circumstances in their neighborhoods to dial 911; and then be ready report to police dispatchers any available descriptions of activities they see and license plates of the suspected people involved in the incidents.
