MENDHAM, NJ - Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has made changes of late, from joining Cameo, to participating in a masking campaign, to denouncing President Donald Trump's post election reaction. But one thing he is not changing is his address.

The long-time Mendham resident told Patch here was here to stay.

"We have no intention of going anywhere," Christie told Patch.

The "we" he is referring to is wife Mary Pat Christie, who came with him to Mendham from Cranford in 1991, five years into their marriage. And he ended up in Mendham because his mother recommended the town to him.

"Were looking to buy a new home and my mother had a friend who had a house for sale on Kennaday Road. And so we came out and looked at the house to Kennaday Road," he said. "We didn't like the house."

But the Christie's stumbled into Drakewick, which was being built right there. They moved into the home in March of 1992 and welcomed son Andrew in August of 1993.

"So we've had all four of our children here in Mendham and raised all four of them here," Christie said. "And our last one is now a senior in high school at Villa Walsh."

The choice of moving to Mendham was an easy one, Christie said, once they drove around the area.

"We just fell in love with the town when we drove around it. We just love the size, we loved the rural nature of it," he said.

As for why he chose Mendham Township over Mendham Borough? Christie said he didn't know the difference.

"To me, Mendham was Mendham. And it was only once I once we got a contract on the house out here that we realized there were two Mendhams and that we lived in the Township," Christie said, noting that the towns are extremely interconnected. "I mean, you're right across the street from the Mendham Borough Police Department. So it was always very confusing to me."

When the family grew in size the Christie's upgraded their home as well, but not far, only to Corey Lane in 1999.

But even after youngest daughter Bridget graduates in the spring, Christie said Mendham was where the family is staying, telling Patch he has "not intention" of leaving.

"You know, we have a second home at the shore in Bay Head. And, you know, I think we're, we're pretty dug in at both places," he said. "And I don't think Mary Pat and I see leaving them anytime soon."
