Former Morris Co. Board Of Ed Member Killed In Bike Crash
An avid cyclist, the one-time Board of Education president was killed in a tragic cycling crash.
LONG HILL, NJ — Nick Stevens was a bit of a Renaissance man, with a wide variety of interests. Professionally, he was a well-regarded lawyer, but he was also so much more: A cyclist, a guitarist, and a one-time Board of Education member being just some of them.
Last week, Stevens' life was cut short while enjoying one of his many hobbies when he was struck and killed by a car while cycling, Harding Police said. Police say a sun glare prevented the driver from spotting the 54-year-old Long Hill resident in the road.
"Nick accomplished many things in his life and loved so many people. He would always help a friend in need and brought a smile to anyone's face that knew him," Stevens 19-year-old son, also named Nicholas, wrote in a GoFundMe page. He described as having a his dad as having "a huge heart, an open mind, and a will to care for everyone he loved."

The diversity of his interests and the size of his heart created a large social circle for Stevens, many of whom are interested in helping the family, the younger Nicholas Stevens said. A GoFundMe has been establish to benefit Stevens' family, which includes his wife of 21 years, Kelly, and 16-year-old daughter Hannah.
Stevens served as the President for the Long Hill Township Board of Education from 2015 to 2017. He was also a co-founder of the New Jersey Volunteer Lawyers for the Arts, Inc., and served on several other professional boards, an obituary says.

In addition to all of his professional efforts, Stevens was "a bona fide foodie, a connoisseur of wine, a lover of art and poetry, and a lifelong Ranger fan."
"He loved spending time at his shore house in LBI. Nick frequented New York City, New Orleans and California where he spent precious time with loved ones enjoying good food, spirits and music," the obituary says.
