Hydrant Flushing Ongoing This Week In Mendham Borough

Residents may experience discolored water or reduced pressure as New Jersey American Water crews flush fire hydrants this week.

MENDHAM BOROUGH, NJ — Residents may notice some changes to their tap water pressure or color this week, while New Jersey American Water is flushing hydrants in the Mendham Borough area.

Crews began a routine flushing of the water distribution system on Monday and are expected to continue through Friday, May 3, said NJAW. Work hours are from approximately 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Flushing pushes sediment out of water main pipes, enhancing water quality; it also makes sure hydrants and valves are working properly.

This may result in reduced pressure or discolored water, said the water supplier. If your water is discolored, run the cold water taps on the lowest level of the house for three to five minutes.

"In keeping with American Water’s focus on safety for both customers and employees, please do not approach our crews while they work," the company said.
