Korean War Vet, Mendham Great-Great-Grandfather Dies At 85

Vincent Marelli, Sr. moved to town in 1959.

MENDHAM, N.J. – Vincent Marelli, Sr. was a dedicated man in all he did.

The longtime Mendham resident died recently at the age of 85.

Marelli served in the United States Navy and was stationed on the USS Bennington during the Korean War from 1950 to 1954. He moved to Mendham in 1959.

Marelli was a member of I.B.E.W. Local 102 in Parsippany for 38 years before he retired in 1993, and was a longtime and active member of St. Joseph Church in Mendham where he ushered for more than 30 years.

He is survived by his wife, Dolores Toomer; two sons; three daughters; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be held Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Bailey Funeral Homes at 8 Hilltop Road in Mendham. Funeral Mass set for 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Church in Mendham.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
