Mendham Reminder: Take Garbage, Recycling From Recreational Areas

People who visit parks and other places in Mendham Township need to carry out their trash and recyclables, with no bins in these spots.

MENDHAM, NJ — Leaving recreational sites “better than you found them,” was a message in Mendham Township this past week, with a reminder that there are no garbage and recycling bins on the grounds of the township’s recreational destinations.

Among places named were Mendham’s fields, hiking trails, parks and playgrounds.

“When you visit, you will need to take your garbage and recyclables with you,” was written with the township’s “carry in, carry out” policy reminder on social media.

The post also pointed out that taking away trash and items meant for recycling, cleans up the sites and keeps them safe for wildlife and people.

Mendham Township’s code addresses littering offenses in all instances, including when thrown from cars, as well as if dropped and left in parks and other public places. The penalties for littering in the township could result in a fine, if caught, “in the maximum amount permitted by law.”

In 2020, Mendham Township received $21,0001.68 in Clean Communities grant monies to help with litter removal, the borough given $10,817.39. In 2021, Mendham Township’s Clean Communities grant awarded was $22,335 and Mendham Borough’s $11.509.94.
