NJ Blizzard: 79K Without Power Saturday

Shore, southern counties hit hardest.

New Jersey is only halfway through the first winter storm of 2016, and some 79,000 residents were without power by noon Saturday.

The southern part of the state was hit hardest, with Atlantic City Electric reporting more than 41,600 outages by lunchtime.

The shore was faring no better, as flooding wreaked havoc on towns from Barnegat to Ocean City. Jersey Central Power & Light was reporting 38,160 outages in its territory, with the lion’s share hitting Ocean County – 29,759 in the dark as of 12:30 p.m. – and Monmouth County, which reported 8,173 outages.

PSE&G was in great shape with a coverage area running diagonally through the state and only reporting 95 customers without power by 12:30 p.m.
