NJ Highway Crash Kills College Student From Morris, Police Say

Police said the 20-year-old lost control of his vehicle on I-295 and crashed. He was studying economics at Rider University.

ROXBURY, NJ — A college student from Kenvil died in a crash over the weekend after losing control of his vehicle on I-295 in Mercer County, said state police.

Samuel Beale, 20, was northbound on the highway when he crashed in Hamilton Township shortly before 8 p.m. Sunday, troopers said.

Officials said Beale's Nissan SUV veered off the roadway to the left near milepost 60.6, and then collided with a concrete bridge support and a guardrail. His injuries were fatal, police said.

Beale's LinkedIn profile lists him as a Rider University sophomore, who was studying economics at the private university in Lawrenceville. He attended Roxbury High School.

A university spokesperson said Beale's death "touches all corners of our campus" and that he would be remembered for "the friendship, kindness and joy he brought to all who knew him."

"We cannot comprehend the grief of his parents and extended family, and everyone at Rider is keeping them close in our thoughts as they cope with this incredible loss," said Kristine A. Brown, Vice President of External Affairs at Rider. "Samuel was a bright light within our university community and he will forever be a member of the Rider University family."
