MENDHAM, NJ — The Mendham Township Committee will be presenting the final budget for the 2023-24 municipal year on Monday, June 12.

The budget was first introduced to the committee on Monday, April 10, during the regular committee meeting, where they received the most recent budget update from Jason Gabloff, the Chief Financial Officer for Mendham Township.

One of the highlights of the April meeting was learning that the township is not anticipating any tax increases this year.

"I think this will be the fourth year of no increases in taxes, and that is super impressive," Deputy Mayor Sarah Neibart said.

According to Gabloff, the finance committee was successful in keeping the total amount to be raised by taxes at the same level as the previous year, a feat lauded by several committee members.

According to finance committee projections, the average home value in Mendham Township is $948,400. Using that calculation, the average homeowner would pay $3,826.86 in taxes, a $127.97 decrease.

The municipal property tax, on the other hand, accounts for only about 20 percent of a property tax bill, with the majority of that coming from taxes levied by the grades 9-12 West Morris Regional High School and the K-8 local school district.

One item that might be budgeted for in the final spending plan is the Mosle Athletic Field project, which was approved by the committee last month after several revisions.

Since public discussions about the project resumed earlier this year, many residents have spent time debating the project's potential approval; as a result, the project has been significantly scaled back since the initial proposal.

The total cost of the project is being split in half with the Twin Boro Bears football and cheerleading programs, a compromise that the committee approves of.

Prior to a final vote from the committee, the public will have a chance to comment and learn more details about the budget.

The meeting will be held Monday at 7:30 p.m. in the Mendham Township Elementary School cafeteria, located at 18 W. Main St., Mendham Township.
