Scammers Pretending To Be Chester Police, Department Warns

While the calendar says it's spring, authorities say it's also scam season.

CHESTER, NJ — The Chester Police Department has issued a warning about a professional scam in which scammers pose as representatives of the local agency.

The scammers appear to have spoofed the caller ID of the police department. As a result, it could appear on residents' phones as the agency's non-emergency number: 908-879-5514.

According to the police, the caller claims to be a police officer, informs you that you have an active warrant for your arrest, and provides a phone number where you can pay the fee and cancel the warrant.

The police department is warning all residents about this scam, emphasizing that they do not contact residents in this manner about outstanding warrants, nor do they contact people over the phone seeking any type of monetary payment.
