MIDDLESEX BOROUGH, NJ — A student in the Middlesex borough school district died in the past week, the school district and police department announced.

The school district did not say the age or gender of the student. Nor did they reveal a cause of death.

But grief counselors who specialize in traumatic loss were on site at Middlesex borough high school Sunday afternoon, and the same counselors will be available throughout the day Monday in all schools in the district, the school district said in this Facebook post.

"It is with profound sadness that I share the news of the passing of one of our students," Middlesex school superintendent Roberta Freeman wrote in a letter to parents. "A loss of this magnitude touches every corner of our schools ... Counselors from the Traumatic Loss Coalition and our counselors, child study team members and administrators are available throughout the day on Monday, Nov. 24 to meet individually with students, facilitate small-group conversations or simply provide a quiet, safe space ... we encourage families to reach out if you think your child may benefit from talking with someone."
