2 Killed In Different Monmouth County House Fires This Weekend
Two people were killed in two different house fires that occurred Friday and Saturday, the first in Asbury Park and the other in Middletown.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — Two people were killed in two different house fires that occurred Friday and Saturday in Monmouth County.
A woman was killed in a house fire that broke out at 6:48 a.m. Saturday in Middletown, said police. The fire occurred in a home on the 20 block of Dakarla Drive. Upon arrival, police and volunteer firefighters found an active structure fire. A married couple, a man and a woman in their 70s, lived in the home. Firefighters were able to rescue the man from the burning home; he was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center. The woman, however, died on the scene.
Prior to that, on Friday morning one person died in a house fire that broke out on the 500 block of Prospect Avenue in Asbury Park.

That fire started just after 11 a.m. Friday in a two-family home, News 12 reported. An adult male tenant was trying to evacuate from the rear of the building, but was trapped by flames and smoke, according to the report. He was taken to Jersey Shore University Medical Center, where he died.
The other people injured in that fire included two other tenants, two firefighters and a police officer, all of which had to be treated for smoke inhalation.

The cause of both fires is being investigated by the Monmouth County Fire Marshal's Office. Anyone with information about the Middletown fire is asked to contact Middletown Police Det. Albert Scott at (732) 615-2120.
