How The Renovated Middletown Library Looks Inside
New private study rooms have been added; a bigger Teen Room, a new maker area and a bigger reading area, with even a fireplace.
MIDDLETOWN, NJ — After sections of the library were closed for the past year, the renovated Middletown Public Library reopened its rooms to the public Monday.
This was a $1.7-million renovation, funded primarily through private donations. For those who don't have time to swing by, here's a peek at how the library looks now, and what's new and improved:
An updated Reference Area: The new reference area has four new private study rooms, a group study room and an expanded quiet reading area — complete with a fireplace!

Expanded History Room: This is a room devoted entirely to the history of Middletown Township, going back to the pivotal role Middletown played in the American Revolutionary War and that even slaves were kept on Middletown farms before the Civil War. Besides material about Middletown, there is information about the Lenape American Indians, the American Revolution, agriculture, railroads and the Jersey Shore. The public can also access databases that will assist with genealogical research, including ancestry and digitized newspapers. Plans are underway to create programming about Middletown's local history.
Updated Teen Room: A teen space perfect for an after-school study session, or a group hangout on the weekend. Teen patrons will be able to find whatever they need in one place, said the library. Browse a favorite fiction genre, pick up a manga series, or learn a skill in the non-fiction section. Teens can also look forward to plenty of new programs.

Brand-new makerspace: An area to learn new technology, develop maker skills and create a variety of projects using tools such as laser cutters, vinyl cutters, heat presses and more. Look for classes starting this April.
