Hwy. 36 Currently Flooded In Middletown At Main Street

The New Jersey Turnpike north and south in Carteret is currently flooded and shut down.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — As of 9:45 p.m., Rt. 36 both north and southbound at Main Street in Middletown is flooded.

Avoid the area, say police.

There's flooding reporting in the Holland Tunnel inbound to New York City. The New Jersey Turnpike north and south in Carteret is currently flooded and shut down. There are unconfirmed reports of a partial building collapse and gas leak reported due to lightning strike on 20 block of Rolling Road in Middlesex borough.

A dozen drivers have had to be pulled from cars in South Brunswick, police there said. South Brunswick has also declared a state of emergency and police are begging people to stay home.

At least one tornado was confirmed heading toward New Brunswick, as a tornado warning remained in effect until at least 8:15 p.m. for the area around Princeton.

Earlier, a tornado emergency was issued for Trenton as the tornado that blew apart homes in Mullica Hill appeared to reform as it headed toward Trenton.
