Anonymous Friend Nominates Middletown Mom For Organizing Toy Drive

An anonymous Patch reader wanted to commend Melissa DeVito of Middletown, because she and her husband organize a toy drive every Christmas.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.

In this submission, Melissa DeVito of Middletown was nominated by an anonymous friend. You may recall DeVito because she and her husband organize a toy drive for needy kids every December. From 12 - 2 p.m. this Sunday, Dec. 10, the DeVitos are asking Middletown residents to drop off toys at Fly Guys Barbershop at 341 Rt. 35 in Red Bank.

The Grinch will be there if kids want to meet him.

The DeVitos will send all gifts collected to The Community Affairs and Resource Center in Asbury Park and The Boys and Girls Club of Monmouth County.

She puts together food, clothing and toiletries for the less fortunate. Then divides and distributes the donations. She is in the process of starting a nonprofit to be more helpful to her community.

She's the wife, mom and friend that does it all. The one you can rely on when you need her no matter the request.
