Middletown Construction On Navesink River Road To Begin Next Week

Navesink River Road is scheduled to be closed and detoured during two phases, approximating two weeks each, officials said.

MIDDLETOWN, NJ – Road improvements along County Route 12A (Navesink River Road), including the addition of a new pedestrian path fronting on Huber Woods Park, is slated to begin next week, county officials said.

Construction is set to take place “on or around” Monday, Jan. 23, Monmouth County Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the Public Works & Engineering Department, said in a Wednesday statement. Navesink River Road is scheduled to be closed and detoured during two stages for approximately two weeks during each stage.

“The construction of the roadway improvements will occur in three stages to avoid unnecessary delays and disruptions to the area,” Arnone said. “We appreciate residents' and visitors’ patience as this project begins and remind all vehicular traffic to follow the arranged detours.”

The first two-week closure will take place Monday until Feb. 5, utility relocations and weather conditions permitting.

The road will be fully reopened to traffic in both directions after Feb. 5, “but will likely require alternating lanes of traffic during working hours,” county officials said.

The second two-week full closure stage is set to take place around April 2023, with the entire initiative scheduled for completion by the end of May 2023.
