Middletown Flood Gates Turned On As High Tide Looms

An elevated high tide will be at 12:14 p.m. Thursday, and the Port Monmouth flood gates have been activated:

MIDDLETOWN, NJ — There will be an elevated high tide at 12:14 p.m. Thursday, and the state turned on the Port Monmouth flood gates, Middletown Township announced.

"High tide is anticipated to be at 12:14 p.m. Thursday, with the tide predicted to be +4.1 with a level of uncertainty as high as +5.0 (rain in the region)," the Township warned.

The NJ Department of Environmental Protection turned on the Pews Creek Tide Gate at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.

"The operation will allow the gates to automatically open and close based on the tides," Middletown Township said here. "It also allows for the gates to open during low-tide cycles so the water can move in and out of the basin."

However, the gate on Old Port Monmouth Road remains open, and there are no plans at this time to close it.
