Middletown Man Allegedly Attacked, Spit on Officer

Charges stem from Dec. 23 incident

A Middletown man attacked and spit on a police officer responding to a Monday incident, authorities charged this week.

Matthew Lamb, 19, was charged with throwing household items—causing between $500 and $2,000 worth of damage—and assaulting an officer trying to arrest him, according to a criminal complaint filed in Middletown.  

When Patrolman Brian McGrogan tried to arrest Lamb, he allegedly resisted by refusing to place his arms behind his back and kicked his legs at the officer, the Dec. 23 complaint states.

Police charged Lamb then assaulted the on-duty and uniformed officer, assuming a fighting stance and striking McGrogan with his hands and feet, the complaint charges. Lamb also spit at McGrogan during the incident, police said.

Lamb was booked on $15,000 bail, no 10 percent option, according to the complaint. He remains in custody at the Monmouth County Correctional Institution, according to inmate records.
