MIDDLETOWN, NJ — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. We’re working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.
This submission comes from Mary Ann Dillow who nominated her son, Gregory Lee Dillow of Middletown, who works at Riverview Medical Center.

How do you know the local hero?
Our son
What does the local hero do?
He's worked at Riverview Medical Center for 10 + years and plays bass in popular local band Brian Kirk and the Jirks.
Why do you believe the local hero should be recognized or honored?
He's been a wonderful son in helping his mom and dad, who has multiple sclerosis.
My husband Bob was diagnosed with MS 16 years ago ago, when Greg was just 13 at the time. It was very difficult for us all, but especially Greg. We were a very active family: Camping, biking, all sports and Bob was always playing or helping coach him.
Bob's love of music and playing the bass was very important to both of them. Sadly, for a very long time after the diagnosis there was no music in our home. It was very sad until Greg started mastering the bass and bringing music and life back to our family. Greg amazes us, but especially Bob, who is an extremely proud father. Greg being at Riverview for so long has made many connections with doctors and specialists and he always makes appointments for his Dad with the best.
Even with Greg's very busy schedule (he plays bass for Brian Kirk and the Jirks) he helps us out whenever needed around the house, he really is a blessing to us!
He worked at Riverview Medical Center through COVID (they shut down his ward and he had to work overtime in the ER and ICU in COVID) and has helped many and brings happiness through his bass playing and music. He is an extremely well centered and loving young man and we are so proud of him.
What's one thing you want everyone to know about the local hero?
That he is a gift not only to us, his parents but to all he meets.
Thank you for all you do, Gregory Lee Dillow!
