Middletown South Female Wrestler Takes Home Historic Win
Thea Rowland is the first girl to win a state championship in wrestling for Middletown:
MIDDLETOWN, NJ — On Friday, Middletown High School South student Thea Rowland made history:
She became the first student from Middletown South to win a statewide wrestling championship since 1994. She is also the first girl to win a state wrestling championship in Middletown history.
The winning wrestling match was held Friday at Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City, before a crowd of thousands. Rowland, who was fourth-seeded, beat first-seed and defending state champion Olivia Georges of DePaul, 4-3, according to the Asbury Park Press.

Rowland was honored at the Middletown Township Committee meeting this past Monday night.
She is pictured at the meeting with her parents, Middletown South wrestling coaches, Mayor Tony Perry and Middletown school board members Caterina Skalaski and Jacqueline Tobacco.
