KEANSBURG, NJ — The mother of three children rescued from the Seeley Avenue house fire Friday in Keansburg remains Tuesday in critical condition in the ICU of a local hospital.

She remained in intensive care all through the Labor Day holiday weekend.

"She's still in critical condition at Staten Island University Hospital," Keansburg Mayor George Hoff said Monday. "She's sedated."

The woman is suffering from large amounts of smoke inhalation, he said.

She was found unconscious on the second floor of a Seeley Avenue home at 10 a.m. Friday, while her three children, two 10-year-olds and one 12-year-old, were screaming to be rescued from second-story windows. The woman and her three children lived in a second-story apartment in the home. It is a legal apartment, said the mayor.

The children jumped out the windows into the arms of Keansburg Police and firefighters waiting on the grass below, and all three were safely caught.

The children suffered some minor smoke inhalation as well. They were treated at Bayshore Medical Center and released Friday.

The three children are currently staying with their father, said the mayor.

Also, a family friend started this GoFundMe to help the woman and her children.

"I am trying to reach out to the community to get help for a loving family of four who lost their house in a tragic fire on August 29," read the page, in part. "With school approaching and the head of the household still in critical condition, with a long recovery ahead of her. We are asking everyone that can please help with donations."

The cause is still being investigated by the Monmouth County Fire Marshal.

Keansburg Police received the first 911 call at 10:13 a.m. Friday, from people driving by, of a home on Seeley Avenue on fire. The first Keansburg Police and firefighters who got to the scene found the three children screaming from second-floor windows.

They could not get out because the stairs were blocked by fire. Firefighters found the mother unconscious on the floor.

Firefighters pulled her out, immediately did CPR (she had no pulse, but rescue workers were able to regain her pulse, said the mayor) and she was airlifted to Staten Island University Hospital.

She has remained unconscious in critical condition ever since.

This was the second time in one week that children had to jump out the second-floor windows in a Monmouth County house fire:

Last Monday in Asbury Park, an 8-year-old boy had to jump from the second-floor window after his home caught fire. He jumped into the arms of police officers and a neighbor.
