Board to Approve Preliminary School Budget in The Week Ahead

Here's what's on the agenda for West Orange this week.

On Tuesday, the Millburn Township Committee will meet at 8 p.m. on the second floor of Millurn Town Hall. An agenda is attached as a pdf.

The committee wil review and adopt the Downtown Millburn Development Alliance's budget. At the Feb. 5 meeting, the DMDA's current president, Gina Colabelli, and past president, John Buchholz, presented a project budget close to last year's at $265,928.

Outdoor Adventure Classes start Tuesday at the Cora Hartshorn Arboretum at 9 a.m. Classes are offered for children from 2-year-olds to 5-year-olds.

On Wednesday, the Millburn Board of Education will meet for a special meeting at 7:45 p.m. in the Education Center.

On the agenda, the school board will approve a preliminary budget to submit to the County Superintendent for the 2013-2014 school year. Agenda is attached.

The district recieved welcome news last week when state aid figures revealed the district’s state aid figures for next year would remain flat.  

Superintendent Dr. James Crisfield said Thursday the district, "was very grateful for flat state aid."

"We look like we are in good shape," he added.

Starting this week, New Eyes for The Needy kicks off its series of Volunteer Open Houses on Wednesdays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. throughout March. The non-profit encourages local residents to stop by and see what New Eyes is all about.

On Friday,  The Education Foundation of Millurn-Short Hills  is hosting its Fifth Annual Millburn Schools Rock Concert at Crestmont Country Club in West Orange on March 8 at 7 p.m.

Three bands, comprised mostly of parents of students in the Millburn Schools, Poet Section, Cat’s Ok Band and The Undertakers, are set to play.
