Millburn Middle School Presents Bye Bye Birdie

The Millburn Middle School Spring Musical, Bye Bye Birdie, will be performed this weekend.

The musical will be presented Friday, April 12 and Saturday, April 13 at 7 p.m. with a Sunday matinee at 1 p.m. on April 14.  

Tickets are $14 and are on sale in the Middle School Guidance Office. They may also be purchased at the door.

Bye Bye Birdie has become a favorite among American musicals. Written by Michael Stewart, it is also one of the school's favorite shows to perform about once each decade. With music by Charles Strouse and lyrics by Lee Adams, it includes some very memorable numbers such as "Kids," "The Telephone Hour," and "Put on a Happy Face."

This is director Bob DuSold's first production with Millburn Middle School, and he brings with him all of his experience as a Broadway actor.

A Maplewood resident, he recently performed in the Paper Mill's production of The Sound of Music. Eighth grade English teacher Mark Oppel, who has choreographed shows at MMS for 17 years, once again has the cast of 50 dancing in unison, while the vocals are under the direction of Millburn Middle School Music teacher David Huneryager. The MMS musical is co-produced by Susan Cicenia and Dominick Pisa and its set decoration has been completed by Claudia Sohr. Robert Manley is the light and sound coordinator.
