Greenwood Gardens In Short Hills To Honor Lezette Proud At Spring Benefit
Greenwood Gardens will be hosting a Spring Luncheon and benefit to help raise funds for seating in the garden and to honor Lezette Proud.

From Greenwood Gardens: The public is invited to a "Luncheon & Benefit"at Greenwood Gardens on Saturday, May 20 at noon to help raise funds for seating in the garden. Tickets are $90 per person and include lunch and a signature cocktail. Lezette Proud, Greenwood’s longtime friend, volunteer and trustee, will be honored as we celebrate her 90th birthday.
The garden is located at 274 Old Short Hills Road, Short Hills.

Lezette Proud has a long and distinguished career in conservation and community service., Lezette has served as a trustee of the Cora Hartshorn Arboretum, and contributed to the Millburn Natural Resources Inventory Report in 1974. As a founding member of the Township Beautification League, Lezette was instrumental in establishing the Millburn Community Garden on Church Street. While president of CLEAN, Inc. (Citizen’s League Environmental Action Now) she initiated the first recycling program in Millburn/Short Hills.
Lezette has been a member of the Short Hills Home Garden Club since 1975 and served as president, helping to restore the vest-pocket park at Brookside Drive/Paper Mill Way, and create the picnic area at Taylor Park.

Currently Lezette serves on the Millburn Shade Tree Advisory Board and is a sustaining member of the Junior League of the Oranges and Short Hills. In recognition of her dedication and leadership, Lezette has been honored with the Garden Club of America Service Award, the Millburn Township Community Service Award, and the Neighborhood House Good Neighbor Award. One of Greenwood Gardens’ greatest champions, Lezette was the leading force of the Green Team at Greenwood Gardens, recruiting a dozen volunteers who began the daunting task of clearing rampant vines and brambles from overgrown garden areas. She currently serves on the Greenwood Gardens board of trustees. It has been a wish of Lezette’s to have more seating for visitors to enjoy the peace and beauty of Greenwood Gardens. As she is known to say, “We want them to visit and stay awhile”.
In honor of Lezette’s 90th birthday, Greenwood Gardens invites you to join us as we celebrate her vibrant spirit, contagious enthusiasm, and outstanding accomplishments. She is truly an inspiration to us all.
