Hathaway Wins Her First Oscar

Actress who started in Millburn won an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress Sunday night.

Millburn local Anne Hathaway was awarded her first Oscar Sunday night for Best Supporting Actress for her role in "Les Miserables" at the 85th Academy Awards.

"I had a dream," Hathaway, 30, said backstage to reporters after receiving her Oscar, the New York Daily News reported."And it came true. And it can happen. And it's wonderful."

Although Hathaway was born in Brooklyn, she moved to the Wyoming section of Millburn at an early age, where she started her acting career, according to a report in the Item newspaper. 

Her first production, Hathaway starred in "Aladdin" at the Paper Mill Playhouse, the report said.

In high school Hathaway won Paper Mill Playhouse's Rising Star Awards for Excellence in high school musical theatre.

More than 90 local residents came out to celebrate the remake of beloved musical "Les Mis" in January with a sing-along at the Millburn Cinema.
