Millburn Field Hockey Losses in Overtime

Millburn girls' field hockey lost 1-0 to Glen Ridge after advancing to overtime in Saturday's county tournament match.

Millburn and Glen Ridge field hockey came together for the match with 4-1 records.

The first half started with Millburn on offense, team captain Megan Weissman (#44) took a shot on goal but was unable to score. Glen Ridge got two corners and Millburn got four; even so, the score remained 0-0. Millburn goalie made three saves and Allie Rounick (#40) and Elizabeth Shea (#27) both made amazing stick saves, which kept Glen Ridge out of their goal. The first half ended with the score tied at 0-0 and both teams working fiercely and cohesively.

The second half of the game began with Glen Ridge on offense. The team failed score on five corners. Millburn Senior Bridget Radtke (#37) had a vital stick save that kept a Glen Ridge shot out of goal. The tension mounted when Glen Ridge had a stroke and Millburn Goalie Fiona Murphy went up against a Glen Ridge player in hopes of keeping her shot out of the goal. Smacking the ball from the upper left hand corner of the goal with her stick, Murphy blocked the shot and kept Glen Ridge from taking the lead.

The half ended with Murphy saving three shots on goal and keeping the score at 0-0. Both Millburn and Glen Ridge fought hard to score and their matched stick skills made for a difficult game to win.

Despite a tough fight from Millburn, Glen Ridge scored the winning goal at nine minutes and twenty-three seconds, advancing them to the next round in the tournament.
